Tranquil country retreat, The West Arms, nestled in the picturesque village of Llanarmon DC, in the unspoilt Ceiriog Valley, North Wales, has completed the first part of an uplifting makeover following new ownership.
The charming 16th Century Country Hotel, taken over by husband and wife team Nicky and Mark Williamson in February 2018, has relaunched itself under a new brand and look which offers a warm Welsh welcome.
Recently awarded a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence, The West Arms offers sixteen characterful rooms and is home to Good Food Guide acclaimed restaurant run by award winning chef Grant Williams.
Originally from North Wales, Nicky Williamson has been living and breathing hospitality for over 30 years and wanted to put her knowledge into practice. Nicky said;
“We have taken time to enhance the building’s old charm and character with the help of local craftsmen. We have reinvigorated the hotel’s historic features including exposed beams, flagstone floors and inglenook fireplaces to give the property a brighter look as well as uncovering some of the property’s original Victorian flooring.”
“This is our calling. We both have very fond childhood memories of the Welsh countryside so to be able to move back here and do what we love best is like ‘living the dream’.
“A visit to the Ceiriog Valley is often described by many of our guests as ‘other worldly’. It’s a special place with so many Welsh wonders to unlock.”
Guests at The West Arms can relish seasonal dishes lovingly prepared using fresh produce from the Ceiriog Valley including; fruit and veg from Lady Kenyon of Greddington, Josh Williams’ free range eggs, Dave Keegan of Llanrhaedr ym Mochant’s Welsh lamb and beef or Rosie Davies’ edible flowers to name but a few.
For a spot of mindfulness, enjoy a refreshing summer drink surrounded by the breath-taking backdrops of the Ceiriog Valley in The West Arm’s calming and spacious Garden. Bird watchers will delight in spotting rare and striking bird of prey, the red kite, as well as Kingfishers.
Steeped in history, The West Arms welcomes seasoned walkers and lovers of nature. Amongst off road biking, mountain biking, cycling, horse-riding, golfing, fishing, canoeing and climbing, this Welsh hidden gem is a great spot to visit the many undiscovered treasures the Ceiriog Valley has to offer.
Nearby attractions include Chirk Castle, the picturesque town of Llangollen, National Trust’s Erdigg and the enchanting Pistyll Rhaeadr waterfall, famous for its appearance in the Timotei shampoo advert. The world-famous Snowdonia National Park is also close at hand.
