A 25-minute drive from Chester and 50 minutes from Liverpool, with easy access from the road, it’s easy to mix and match visits to the cities with beach trips, hikes or white water rafting on the river Dee. Pack a picnic and take off to the 2000 acres of common land and ancient hill fort on Halkyn Mountain, just next to the farm… or head towards the coast, where the nearest beach is half an hour’s drive away. On site, admire the scenery from the landscaped gardens, take a little stroll around the lazy duck pond or prop your feet up under the parasol, where there are a table and chairs in the fresh air. Fried, scrambled or poached? There are fresh chicken and ducks eggs sold on the farm (subject to availability). Source more fresh produce at the local farmers’ markets and essentials from the shops in Mold, 10 minutes’ drive away.
